Dementia is used to describe the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by specific diseases and conditions. Dementia is a chronic progressive problem of cognition, which is the failure of the brain’s functions. It affects people at different stages of life, it affects different parts of the brain, and it affects it at different speeds. This Dementia Awareness training is intended for anyone who works with or is around people that may be living with dementia.
Dementia Awareness Training
This Dementia Awareness training by Donegal Safety Services is designed to support caregivers and address ethical issues regarding Dementia. It will give participants an overview of the common types and symptoms of dementia as well as going into how it can affect the brain in different ways. The Dementia Awareness course also introduces strategies to use on clients with dementia and dealing with challenging behaviour.
Dementia Awareness Learning Outcome:
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Define dementia and differentiate common types
- Recognize early signs and diagnostic steps
- Apply person-centred communication strategies
- Understand non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches
- Address ethical issues
- Have knowledge of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) & Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS)
- Understand safeguarding and dementia
- Questions & Answer
Prerequisites:
Students must be proficient in English such that they can understand and convey the concepts contained in the programme.
Duration:
3 hours
Maximum Participants:
12 participants per course
Dementia Awareness Assessment & Certification:
Training is facilitated through engaging presentations, video examples, and interactive discussions, ensuring that participants fully understand the material. Learner skill and knowledge will be continually assessed throughout the duration of the course. In addition Learners will complete a learning questionnaire.
Certification:
- Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive a certificate issued by Donegal Safety Services which is valid for 2 years.
- To maintain your qualification this course must be repeated after two years from the date of completion.
