Our Medication Management Course is a designed to provide healthcare workers with the knowledge required in the ‘Management and Safe Handling of Medication’ in a Healthcare or residential setting. This course by Donegal Safety Services focuses on equipping participants with the competencies necessary to comply with healthcare standards whilst ensuring patient safety.
The course covers essential topics including; legislation, monitoring, documentation, and patient rights. By completing this course, participants will be well-prepared to manage and safety handle medications.
Medication Management Training Content:
This Medication Management training covers the following key areas:
- Legislation & standards (An Bord Altranais)
- HIQA Standards
- Policies & Procedures in relation to Medication Management
- 10 Rights of Medication Administration
- Double checking medications
- Monitoring & Documentation
- Patient rights / patient education
- Withholding medications
- Procedures in event of medication error/incident
- Administration errors
- Policy & procedures for the ordering, stock control and safe storage
- Documentation of medications
Medication Management Learning Outcome:
On completion of this course participants will:
- Have an understanding their role and responsibilities in medication management.
- Have an awareness of the relevant legislation regarding safe medication practices.
- Will have an understanding of the key principles in the transcription and documentation of medications.
- Have gained an insight into medication errors and strategies to avoid these.
Prerequisites:
There are currently no prerequisites for this course. Students must be proficient in English such that they can read prescriptions and medication directions.
Duration:
3.5 – 4 hours
Maximum Participants:
12 participants per course
Medication Management Training Assessment & Certification:
Training is facilitated through engaging presentations, video examples, and interactive discussions, ensuring that participants fully understand the material. Learner skill and knowledge will be continually assessed throughout the duration of the course. In addition Learners will complete a learning questionnaire.
Certification:
- Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive a certificate issued by Donegal Safety Services which is valid for 2 years.
- To maintain your qualification this course must be repeated after two years from the date of completion.
