Managing Challenging Behaviour training?
Challenging behaviour refers to actions, often displayed by individuals with learning disabilities, dementia, or mental health needs, that are intense, frequent, or enduring enough to pose safety risks, significantly reduce quality of life, or limit access to community facilities Common examples include physical aggression, self-injury, destruction of property, and extreme emotional outbursts. This Managing Challenging Behaviour in Healthcare training is based on HIQA standards and safety regulations and HSE’s Positive Behaviour Support Framework which is designed to provide staff with the skills to develop positive plans for individuals with behaviours of concern. It aims to move away from restrictive practices and align with HIQA standards, Safety and Health Act, The Charter for Human Rights, and the Declaration of Human Rights.
HIQA standards state residents must not be subjected to restrictive procedures unless required for serious risk and staff must be trained to respond to challenging behaviour.
